Overloads Cause Damage to Individual Employees and Companies in General
Leaders want to get from each employee a maximum, they expect that he will give all his time to work, sitting up late at the office, answering calls and letters at any time of the day. It’s great if an employee of his own free will and not complaining will give work and even a weekend with a vacation. Most often the head is willing to pay for this zeal, especially if the work of a subordinate is fixed by time tracking with screenshots program and there is no doubt about its high productivity.
Worst of all in such conditions is the specialists in the lowest positions: on them as a snowball rolls from the corporate summit an inordinate amount of tasks. This is one of the reasons why recycling has become an ordinary phenomenon in our lives – the boss said, you need to do. The time tracking with screenshots program only has time to mark additional productive hours.
Although there is another explanation: all people, regardless of position, depend on the rapidly changing economic situation, technology, corporate norms. In this case, it is clear that no one has established the rules, and everything that is happening is simply a spontaneous reaction to corporate events.
Another version: to rework a person is forced by ambition, guilt, anxiety, fear, pride, and greed, the desire to prove his indispensability, excessive responsibility and sense of duty. Some of these stimuli have positive coloring, some – negative. Strangely enough, but the work, according to some studies, more often allows a person to feel more self-confidence than family life.
The main question that interests us: do extra hours of work allow you to achieve a better result? Is it true then we have time to do more? How does time tracking with screenshots affect the end result?
Most researchers agree that overloading at work does not bring any benefit. It does not allow you to achieve better results. Professor Erin Reid of the University of Boston conducted a study and found that the managers could not determine by the end result which staff worked for this 60-80 hours a week, and who only pretended. To determine who is who, they need a program for recording time: it will record a productive and unproductive time and show an objective picture. However, Reid did not find evidence that “lazy” as a result of doing less, and overloaded – more.
Another interesting study in the Finnish Institute of Occupational Diseases was conducted by Marianna Virtanen and her colleagues. They proved that processing results leads to various diseases: depression, alcoholism, diabetes, insomnia, cardiovascular diseases, memory impairment. At first glance, it seems that this is bad only for the employee himself, in fact, the health problems of the staff affect the financial performance of the whole company: you have to pay for sick leave, absenteeism and employee turnover. And then promising recycling of employees, fixed in the program for time recording, will affect directly the income of the organization and definitely will not please the head.
Another study showed that the constant overload negatively affects emotional intelligence: loss of self-control, the ability to recognize emotions in the face and movements, the ability to build relationships. All these qualities are extremely important if the work is connected with people.
And what about voluntary recycling when a person literally lives at his job? Even voluntarily working on weekends and nights, we get tired and make more mistakes than if we had a rest at that time. Only 1-3% of people have 5-6 hours of sleep and their productivity will not be affected.
If the manager notices in time tracking with screenshots program that one of the employees is constantly recycling, it is worth preparing for the worst. Recycling is a direct way to reduce the impact of an employee, increasing errors and inability to solve even the simplest tasks.
Researchers from the Harvard Business School conducted an experiment with intellectuals and concluded that pre-existing work breaks (night, weekend, vacation) allow people to demonstrate greater productivity.
